I was born in the 1950's, which places me in that generation known as the "baby boomers". Actually, there are a lot of us around ! Just check out the numbers of motor homes on our roads, often driven by " grey nomads"....footloose and fancy free. Or are they?
To be able to travel as the mood takes you and enjoy life the life you only dreamed about when you were working sounds like heaven. Being retired and free of the constraints of a 9 to 5 type job seems like the only way to achieve this way of life.
Most definitions for "retirement" contain the keywords cease, withdraw, leave, stop.
I prefer to think of it as reorganizing my professional life to accommodate more flexibility, so I can do the things I want. I also recognize that I am not ready to stop working in a profession that I love. As a primary school teacher, I am fortunate to be able to work on a casual basis and retaining the stimulation the job brings, without the time constraints and workload. It is a life style option that I am very grateful for.
